Searching IDEA online data base can be done in different ways :
1 - Criterium and multi-criteria search
This method will allow you to find the datas you are looking for in a
quick and effective way without
any risks of typing errors or misunderstanding of the structure of the
data base.
The datas contained in the IDEA online data base have been coded
according to various criteria such as countries and geographical
areas, artistic domains or kind of organizations. To help you
understand our coding, please refer to our definitions for the artistic domains and kind
of organizations.
Use the pop-up menus to search by criteria. Note that the detailed
search form proposes more criteria and allows a more precise
multi-criteria search.
2 - Full text search
- Caution : the full text mode search that we have
chosen is by "character string". It means that the
words you type are not taken into account as several different words
but as a whole, single word.
For instance a search on "University of New York" will bring a
different result as a search on "New York University".
- The full text search applies to, but only to, the words contained in
the IDEA online data base.
- If you are looking for a precise person, you will
get a better result by typing only the family name,
and if needed followed by the first name. In this
case it is not necessary to add other criteria.
- Note that the names of cities, organizations and periodicals are
listed in IDEA online under the name and language used in the country
of origin. In the case of non-alphabetic languages or languages using
the Cyrillic alphabet, the English designation has been adopted.
If you know the exact name of the institution, periodicals or city you are looking for, use it.
Otherwise, type the most significant word of the name and/or use one or several sorting
criteria.
- The full text search can be also used with "shorten" words. For
instance "muse" will bring museum, museo, etc.
